It is time for TwoRains’ first big field season! We met at the McDonald Research Institute and drove to Heathrow airport. Fitting us, and all of our luggage, in the taxis was a bit of a challenge!

Once we got to India we first had to go to Varanasi to register with the help of our colleagues from Banares Hindu University. We also had time for a trip down the river Ganges to see the ghats, and I even got to sample some bones for lipid analysis:

We then travelled to the dig site at Lohari Ragho. The dig house is our home for the next 5 1/2 weeks, the excavation team includes researchers from Cambridge, Banares Hindu University and MD University, Rohtak, plus a few “furry friends” who have joined us around the house:

The day after we arrived, we went to the site and started digging! We excavate from 6:30 until 1:00, but work continues back in the dig house in the afternoon.

Of course, not every team member is currently in the field with us, but they continue to work on the project in other ways:
